The Phonetic Orchestra was created in 2012 as a vehicle to explore the evolving relationship between notation and sound. Its members are assembled from a large group of Melbourne-based musicians working across fields such as contemporary classical music and music of an improvisatory and/or experimental nature. Previous performances have investigated methods of composition within improvisation, as well as the use of spatialisation as an experiential consideration.
